Moulvibazar markets buzz with last-minute Eid shoppers
With Eid only 4 days away, last-minute Eid shopping has intensified in Moulvibazar. From the elite markets of the town to the sidewalks, people are busy shopping everywhere.
Eid shopping began from the first days of Ramadan in Moulvibazar, a district known for its large expatriate community.
A festive shopping atmosphere is now evident in the major shopping malls across the town.
Shops are displaying famous brands and imported clothing. Some businesses have arranged raffle draws and special discounts to attract customers.
In this year’s Eid market, women’s sarees, three-piece suits, salwar-kameez, fatuas, skirt-tops, boys’ long and short Punjabis, fatuas, shirts, jeans, T-shirts, and children’s clothing in various colors and designs are available in different clothing markets.
Some of the prominent markets include MB Cloth Store, Bilash Departmental Store, Julia Shopping City, MR Fashion, Alamdina Cloth Store, Ashraf Centre, Ahmed Mansion, Serratown Plaza, Seven Star, Shapla Mansion, and RK Complex. Large crowds of shoppers were seen at all these shopping centers.
Alongside the established markets, sidewalk stalls are also lined with hawkers selling a variety of fashionable clothing. Hawkers said that the number of buyers this year is higher than last year.
Visits to several small and medium-sized markets in Moulvibazar show that Eid shopping is now in full swing.
Imad Uddin, a businessman at Paur Mini Market, said that some cloth and fabric are currently being sold, and sales have started increasing in other stores as well.
He added that sales may rise further in the days leading up to Eid.
Meanwhile, the city’s major shopping malls and markets are already crowded with Eid shoppers.
The two main shopping centers of the city, MB Bipani and Bilash, are experiencing heavy crowds.
The manager of MB Cloth Store said that, keeping last year’s sales in mind, high-quality clothes have been stocked this time.
Although clothing prices remain normal before Eid, traders often increase prices during the festival season.
As a result, buyers sometimes have to purchase clothes at significantly higher prices.
College students Anika Islam and Sadia Jahan, who came to shop for Eid at Sumayya Boutique, said that clothing prices are slightly higher this year compared to last year.
To ensure security during the Eid shopping season, police and RAB are patrolling the markets.
Law enforcement agencies are also conducting round-the-clock patrols in the city and in surrounding areas considered sensitive.
