Five days of rain forecast

A low-pressure extension over West Bengal and adjoining areas is expected to trigger rain and thunderstorms in different parts of the country over the next several days, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

In a 120-hour forecast issued on Friday (March 13) at 6 p.m., the weather office said the seasonal low currently lies over the South Bay of Bengal, influencing weather patterns across the country.

On the first day of the forecast period, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds and lightning may occur at a few places in the Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and at one or two places in the Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions. Day and night temperatures across the country may rise slightly during this period.

On Saturday, similar conditions are expected to persist. Rain or thundershowers with gusty winds may occur in parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and at isolated locations in Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions.

Daytime temperatures may fall slightly, while nighttime temperatures could increase marginally.

On Sunday, rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely at some places in the Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and at isolated locations in Rangpur, Barishal and Chattogram divisions. Both day and night temperatures may drop slightly.

For Monday and Tuesday, the fourth and fifth days of the forecast, rain or thundershowers with lightning and temporary gusty winds may occur at one or two places in all divisions of the country.

Temperatures may remain nearly unchanged during this period, although both day and night temperatures could rise slightly on the fifth day.

The Meteorological Department also indicated that the tendency for rain and thunderstorms may continue during the extended five-day outlook.

Meanwhile, the relative humidity in Dhaka was recorded at 57 percent at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Winds were blowing from the west or southwest at speeds of 8 to 12 kilometers per hour, with gusts from the west or northwest potentially reaching 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.

According to the weather office, the sun will set in Dhaka at 6:07 p.m. on Saturday, while sunrise is expected at 6:09 a.m.
