AFC Women's Asian Cup: Bangladesh women complete campaign with unhappy note
Bangladesh Women’s Football team completed their Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Asian Cup campaign with an unhappy note.
Bangladesh Women’s Football team, China Women’s Football team, North Korea Women’s Football team and Uzbekistan Women’s Football team were in Group-B.
A total of 12 teams splitting into three groups are taking part in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup. Australia has hosted the AFC Women’s Asian Cup. The Group-B matches were held at Western Sydney Stadium and Perth Rectangular Stadium.
China women emerged the champions in the Group-B collecting maximum 12 points from three matches, while North Korea became runners-up in the Group-B bagging nine points from three matches.
On the other hand, Uzbekistan finished third in Group-B earning three points from as many matches. Bangladesh failed to earn any point playing as many outings.
Bangladesh lost to China by two goals to nil in their first Group-B match at Western Sydney Stadium on March 3. According to the latest FIFA rankings, China have taken 17th position, while Bangladesh have taken ninth position.
Bangladesh suffered a massive 0-5 goals defeat to North Korea in their second Group-B match at the same venue on March 6. According to the latest FIFA rankings, North Korea have taken ninth position.
Bangladesh lost to Uzbekistan by 0-5 goals in their third Group-B match at Perth Rectangular Stadium on March 9. According to the latest FIFA rankings, Uzbekistan have taken 49th position.
Bangladesh showed a spectacular performance in their first two Group-B matches. So, the football lovers of the country expected that the red-and-green outfit would compete against Uzbekistan and would earn win.
If Bangladesh could win in a big margin against Uzbekistan. Bangladesh had every chance to take place in the ‘Super Eight’ of AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
Bangladesh could qualify in the quarter-finals as the best third-place-achiever team if they could fulfill the expectations of the football lovers of the country. But Uzbekistan reached the ‘Super Eight’ instead of Bangladesh.
But Bangladesh failed to do that. Thus, Bangladesh were ousted from the tournament. But it may be mentioned that Bangladesh women for the first time play in the final round of AFC Women’s Asian Cup.
So, the debutante Bangladesh women had to satisfy with this result. Bangladeshi women, specially forward Ritu Porna Chakma, Captain of Bangladesh Women’s Football team Afeida Khandaker and goalkeeper Mile Akter entertained the spectators by presenting their better brand of football at the big bowls and the spectators of Bangladesh, who watched their performance on television.
