Infant found dead in septic tank

The body of four-month-old baby boy named Ashraful was recovered on Monday from a toilet tank behind his house in Kishoreganj 26 days after he went missing.

The body was in a state of decomposition due to being submerged in water.

The victim ‘s grandfather found the body while cleaning the toilet tank behind the house on Tuesday morning. Police went to the scene and recovered the body after receiving information.

The incident took place at Dariakandi in Chhaysuti Union of Kuliarchar upazila. The child’s father Md. Shahin, is a driver of the Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land).

On February 5, at around 10:30 am, the child’s mother left him lying in the swing inside the house and went to sweep the area next to the house.

After a while, the seven-year-old elder son came and said that his younger brother was not in the swing.

Family members searched the house and surrounding area but could not find the child.

After the disappearance, a neighbor claimed that three women wearing burqas were seen quickly leaving the area, one of them holding a child. The statement raised fears of child theft in the area.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of kuliarchar Police Station, Kazi Arif said that an investigation had been underway since the disappearance.
