Fires strike in Bagerhat

A ward BNP office gutted in fire in Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district, according to a report received here. The incident took place in Sonatala Ward N0.1 of Southkhali Union of the Upazila at Friday.

The Sonatala ward No.1 BNP Office, located next to Sonatala Government Primary School, was completely gutted in the fire. Eye-witness Md. Mansur said, my shop is adjacent to the BNP office. I was sleeping inside of my shop at the night, when I suddenly heard a loud sound, I came outside of the shop and found the BNP Office, next to my shop is burning.

So, I called everyone around. Volunteer leader Raju Gazi said, I went to the spot at night after being informed of the incident.

Locals found a 2 litter kerosene oil bottle in front of the BNP Office. This indicates the fire is planned. Md. Billal Hossain Milton, General Secretary of Sharankhola Upazila BNP told, it is believed that the people from Jamat-Shibir set fire to the BNP Office for sabotage. Tension is prevailing in the ward due to the February 12 National Election. He added that legal action will be taken in the fire incident.

Another report states that a terrible fire broke out at ‘Tanvir Telecom and Electrics’ shop belonging to one Tanvir Ahmed at Mansha Bazar under Fakirhat Upazila in Bagerhat district at Saturday (February 21) mid night around 11 pm.
