‘Khalilur’s Ministerial role could raise questions’
Staff Reporter :
National Citizen Party Convener and MP Nahid Islam warned on Tuesday that if Dr. Khalilur Rahman, former national security adviser to the interim government, joins the BNP cabinet as a minister, it could cast doubt on his role during the interim administration.
Speaking to reporters after taking oath as a member of parliament and the Constitution Reform Council, Nahid said.
“Earlier, student advisers were asked to resign to ensure neutrality. A ministerial position for Khalilur Rahman now may raise questions about whether he acted on behalf of a political party while serving in the previous government.”
Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher also described Khalilur’s inclusion in the cabinet as “unethical.”
Nahid further alleged election irregularities, claiming that certain constituencies were manipulated to secure a two-thirds majority for the elected party and hinder constitutional reform.
He criticized the BNP’s decision not to take oath as members of the Constitution Reform Council, saying it contradicted the referendum verdict supporting reforms.
He added that referendums were not originally part of the Constitution, and their legality derives from the July National Charter (Constitution Reform) Implementation Order.
“Since all participated in the election and referendum under this framework, a constitutional and legal crisis has emerged,” he said.
Nahid urged the BNP to take the oath promptly to address the crisis and fulfill the reform promises made to the public.
