Dhaka, Moscow pledge closer energy cooperation

Bangladesh and Russia on Wednesday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with a particular focus on expanding cooperation in the energy sector.

During a high level meeting held on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Manila, the Philippines, both Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov talked on the issue, according to a Foreign Ministry.

Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir accompanied the Bangladesh Foreign Minister.
During the meeting, the two foreign ministers reviewed the existing state of Bangladesh Russia relations, with special emphasis on ongoing cooperation in the energy sector.

They also exchanged views on ways to broaden collaboration in other areas of mutual interest.
The discussions reflected the shared commitment of both countries to further deepen their longstanding bilateral partnership through continued engagement and cooperation.

Lavrov congratulated Dr Khalilur Rahman on his election as President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, describing it as a significant achievement.

The Russian Foreign Minister also welcomed the establishment of the Bangladesh Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group, saying the initiative would help institutionalise legislative cooperation and further strengthen ties between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to maintain regular engagement and work together to advance Bangladesh Russia relations across a range of sectors, building on the longstanding friendship between the two nations.
