Tarique quits Bogura-6, keeping Dhaka-17: EC

The Election Commission (EC) has declared the Bogura-6 parliamentary seat vacant following a letter from BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman expressing his intention to represent Dhaka-17 instead.
On Monday, EC Secretary Akhtar Ahmed issued the official gazette announcing the vacancy.
According to the notice, Rahman, elected from both Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17 constituencies, submitted a signed declaration under Article 71(2)(a) of the Constitution of Bangladesh, indicating his preference to serve as the representative of Dhaka-17.
As a result, the Bogura-6 seat is officially vacant effective 16 February 2026, paving the way for a by-election in the constituency.
