Blankets given among cold-hit people in Dimla
Nilphamari Correspondent :
A winter relief programme was organized in the Thakurgong area of Dimla Upazila in Nilphamari under the personal patronage of Barrister Imran Kabir Chowdhury. As part of the humanitarian initiative, blankets were distributed among elderly and underprivileged residents suffering from the severe cold, providing much-needed relief to vulnerable families during the winter season.
The distribution was coordinated by Asaduzzaman Tipu, Nilphamari district correspondent of The Daily Star. He is also locally known as the brother of martyred freedom fighter Captain Bashar.
Among those present at the event was Atowar Rahman, Nilphamari district correspondent of The New Nation, along with several respected members of the local community. Underprivileged residents of Thakurgaon village in Dimla Upazila-including Rupbala, Babul Chandra Roy, Binod Chandra Roy, and Sagar Islam-expressed their gratitude after receiving blankets and urged that such humanitarian initiatives continue in the future.
According to sources close to the organizers, the blanket distribution began after February 12 in line with a pre-planned decision aimed at avoiding any potential controversy. Given the severity of the cold weather, priority was given to elderly individuals, persons with disabilities, and low-income families.
Organizers said the initiative reflects a continued commitment to stand beside ordinary people in times of need. Local residents believe that such efforts play a significant role in easing the suffering of winter-affected communities and set a positive example of social responsibility.
