Attacks on 11-Party men must stop

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman on Friday alleged that activists and supporters of the 11-party alliance are being targeted in various parts of the country, claiming that their homes have come under attack.
He described these incidents as “fascist behaviour” and termed them deeply unfortunate for the nation.
Addressing a press conference at the party’s central office in the capital, he said those who secured a majority in the election must act responsibly.
“Such fascist tendencies must come to an end. If they continue, we will be left with no option but to take necessary decisions,” he warned.
Dr. Shafique said that voters had intended to exercise their democratic rights in a peaceful manner and that his party had expected constructive political engagement.
“Elections naturally produce winners and losers, and everyone accepts the outcome when the process is fair. However, irregularities cast serious doubt on the credibility of the results,” he remarked.
He expressed gratitude to the citizens who voted for Jamaat and assured them that the party would remain steadfast in supporting them.
Raising allegations of election malpractice, he claimed that vote counting was abruptly suspended in certain areas and that some polling centres were unlawfully occupied.
He further alleged that numerous votes cast in favour of Mamunul Haque were invalidated, while votes for Mirza Abbas were accepted under similar circumstances.
“What is happening amounts to fascism. This is not directed at us alone; it is an assault on the people of the country,” he said.
He added that if their restraint is mistaken for weakness, it would lead to further injustice. “We respectfully call for an immediate halt to these wrongful actions,” he urged.
Shafiqur also said he would request the Election Commission to withhold results from disputed centres before forming the government.
In addition, he alleged that information regarding loan defaulters had been concealed and emphasized that electoral laws should not be violated.
Referring to broader political concerns, he warned that attempts to ignore public demands would not silence their voices, reiterating his party’s demand for accountability and meaningful reforms.
