Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Thursday conveyed his heartfelt appreciation and congratulations to the people of Bangladesh following the peaceful conclusion of voting in the 13th parliamentary election and the referendum on implementing the July National Charter.
In a statement issued by his press wing after polls closed at 4:30pm, Prof Yunus said the election and referendum were held in a calm, disciplined and celebratory atmosphere across the country.
He noted that the enthusiastic turnout of voters, the responsible behavior of political parties, the restraint demonstrated by candidates, and the professionalism of all institutions involved reflected the nation’s steadfast commitment to democratic values.
By exercising their constitutional rights, citizens have actively contributed to shaping the future direction of the country, he added.
The Chief Adviser extended special thanks to the Election Commission, members of law enforcement agencies, the armed forces, civil administration, election observers, media professionals, and all officials and staff engaged in the electoral process.
He said their dedication and tireless efforts made it possible to successfully complete such a large-scale democratic exercise.
Prof Yunus also urged political parties and candidates to maintain democratic decorum, tolerance and mutual respect after the announcement of results.
While differences of opinion are natural in a democracy, he emphasized the need for unity in the greater national interest.
He remarked that Bangladesh has once again affirmed that ultimate authority rests with the people.
“We will move forward together in building a state founded on accountability, inclusiveness and justice,” he said.
Describing the election as a moment of immense joy and celebration, Prof Yunus stated that it marks the beginning of an unprecedented new chapter for Bangladesh.
He further described the polls as the most peaceful and festive in the nation’s history, expressing hope that sustaining such continuity would elevate the country’s democracy to the highest standards.
“Let us work hand in hand to further strengthen our democratic journey,” the Chief Adviser concluded.
