2 youths jail, fined for casting fake votes

At least two youngmen have been sentenced to two years in prison for casting fake votes in Hossainpur upazila and Pakundia upazila of Kishoreganj on Thursday.

The convicted named Imran (18) son of Abul Kashem of Hossionpur upazila, and Omar Faruq (18), in Char-Pakundia upazila.

Judicial Magistrate,also Ist class Magistrate of Summary Trail, Swagat Soumya handed down the sentence to Imran.

It is learned that he was challenged by agents while casting fake votes at the Piplakandi High School center around 12 noon.

Another case, The Judicial Magistrate Aminul Islam handed down the sentence to Omar Faruq.
Later, two youths sentenced to two years in prison, and each ten thousands fined Meanwhile, a mobile court jailed a young man for two years and fined him Tk10,000 on Thursday after authorities accused him of casting a fake vote at a polling centre in Hossainpur upazila.

The court convicted Imran Mia, 20, son of Abul Kashem of Piplakandi village, at the Piplakandi High School centre.

Local sources said Imran entered the centre to vote on behalf of another person. Officials grew suspicious of his behaviour and detained him for questioning.

A mobile court present at the scene held an immediate hearing and handed down the two-year prison term along with the fine.

The magistrate in charge confirmed the incident but declined to provide further details.
Earlier, an independent candidate’s supporter has been accused of stabbing and injuring a rival candidate’s supporter while he was returning home after voting in Kishoreganj-5 (Nikli-Bajitpur) constituency.

The incident took place behind Halimpur Union Parishad in Bajitpur Upazila on Thursday morning
The injured Md. Qayyum (60), and admitted to Zahurul Islam Medical College Hospital. Bajitpur, Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Shahidullah confirmed the matter.

Locals say that Md. Qayyum, a supporter of the candidate of the duck symbol (BNP rebel independent candidate) Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Iqbal, was returning home after voting at the Halimpur Government Primary School center in the morning.

At that time, supporters of BNP candidate Syed Ehsanul Huda attacked him with country-made weapons. He was seriously injured.
