Jamaat won’t accept rigged polls: Jubayer

Staff Reporter :

Alleging biased conduct by a section of the administration, Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer has warned that his party will not accept any form of rigged election.

He made the remarks on Tuesday while speaking to journalists after a meeting with the European Union (EU) election observation mission at Jamaat’s central office.

Earlier, at around 11:00 am, a 16-member EU delegation met with the Jamaat Ameer. The hour-long meeting focused on the state of election preparations and whether there were any threats or risks surrounding the polls.

Speaking after the meeting, Ehsanul Mahbub Jubayer said there is a lack of a “level playing field” in the election, alleging that a section of the top administration is showing partisan behavior.

He warned that if this situation does not change, Jamaat will clearly announce its position.

He also described the Election Commission (EC) as appearing weak and urged it to act more responsibly.

Regarding the recovery of weapons ahead of the election, the Jamaat leader said the administration should take stronger action to recover looted and illegal arms so that public fear does not spread.

He further alleged that Jamaat’s election activities are being obstructed and its leaders and activists harassed, adding that 15 of the party’s election offices have been set on fire.
