BGB seizes smuggled goods worth Tk 132 crore in January raids

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) conducted operations across border areas and other locations in January 2026, seizing smuggled goods valued at Tk 131.97 crore.
The haul included 940.176 grams of gold, 14 kg 337 grams of silver, 21,271 saris, 11,883 three-piece sets/shirts/sheets/blankets, 3,605 ready-made garments, 2,182 meters of cloth, 403,427 cosmetic items, 2,595 pieces of imitation jewellery, 28,33,669 fireworks, 11,451 cubic feet of timber, 8,929 kg of tea leaves, 21,659 kg of betel nuts, 29,460 kg of coal, 1,250 cubic feet of stone, 371 mobile phones, 3,789 mobile parts, 30,575 eyeglasses, 41,703 kg of cumin, 9,786 kg of sugar, 8,735 kg of onions, 7,409 kg of garlic, 8,241 packets of seeds, 18,799 kg of fertilizer, 2,745 packets of pesticides, 538 litres of diesel, 4,17,511 pieces of chocolate, 973 cattle/buffaloes, one stone idol, 10 trucks/covered vans, 12 pickups/Mahindra vehicles, 5 private cars/ microbuses, one trolley, 29 CNGs/ EZ bikes, 52 motorcycles, and 22 bicycles/vans. Recovered arms comprised 14 foreign/local pistols, one hand grenade, 13 magazines, 185 rounds of ammunition, one mortar shell, one cocktail, and 28 other weapons.

BGB also seized massive quantities of drugs, including 12,32,896 Yaba tablets, 1 kg 730 grams of heroin, 1,156 bottles of Phensedyl, 8,970 bottles of foreign liquor, 198 litres of local liquor, 1,216 cans of beer, 1,929 kg 50 grams of ganja, 2,67,709 packets of bidis and cigarettes, 96,638 narcotic tablets/injections, 6,079 bottles of Iskaf syrup, 16,256 Anagra/Senagra tablets, and 13,14,783 pieces of various medicines and tablets.
In these operations, 172 smugglers involved in Yaba and other drug trafficking, plus 114 Bangladeshis, 5 Indians, and 159 Myanmar nationals for illegal border crossing, were arrested. Legal action has been taken against all.
