Jamaat campaigns for ‘Yes’ vote in Gazipur
Gazipur Correspondent:
Considering the referendum and the prevailing political context in the Gazipur-5 constituency, Jamaat-e-Islami has begun campaigning not only for its traditional Scales symbol but also in favour of a “Yes” vote to align the electoral equation. Following the allocation of symbols, an election atmosphere has started to take shape among voters. However, ordinary voters are demanding the implementation of candidates’ promises and assurances from the administration to ensure a free and fair vote.
Jamaat-e-Islami’s nominee from the 10-party alliance, Md Khairul Hasan, along with party activists, has been distributing leaflets, conducting door-to-door campaigns and holding brief roadside meetings in various areas, urging voters to cast a “Yes” vote.
Party leaders say they are campaigning for the “Yes” vote in support of necessary reforms and a justice-based system to strengthen the state and democracy. According to them, a “Yes” vote signifies the establishment of people’s rights and progress towards good governance.
During the campaign, party activists, displaying the Scales symbol, are engaging with general voters and highlighting the importance of the referendum. Local voters say this has sparked curiosity and discussion among the electorate. Jamaat-e-Islami’s strategy appears to combine party symbolism with issue-based voting, adding a new dimension to grassroots politics surrounding the referendum.
The party maintains that it supports the “Yes” vote to achieve essential reforms in the state structure, establish justice, and protect democratic rights.
