‘Vote yes to rebuild the nation and end fascism’

Staff Correspondent :

At a public awareness meeting on Referendum 2026, Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhtar has urged citizens to vote “Yes” in the upcoming national referendum and parliamentary election to rebuild the country and eradicate fascism.

Speaking on Wednesday at a referendum campaign and voter motivation rally held at Bhuihar Bus Stand, Kazipara Field, organized by the District Administration and Narayanganj Sadar, she said that a “Yes” vote could play a positive role in changing the destructive mindset of anti-democratic forces.

She added that the upcoming election would be one of the most significant in Bangladesh’s history. If “Yes” wins in the referendum, fascism will no longer be able to rise again. Therefore, she called on everyone to participate in the referendum and national election scheduled for 12 February.

The adviser explained that voters will receive two ballot papers one white and one pink. The white ballot will be used to vote for a preferred parliamentary candidate, while the pink ballot will allow voters to cast their vote for or against the July Charter.

Calling for mass awareness in favor of voting “Yes,” she said it is a collective responsibility to uphold the spirit of the July Revolution. “Remember, the key to the country is in your hands,” she said. “In the past, we have seen governments amend the constitution at will. If the ‘Yes’ side prevails in the referendum, no future government will be able to change the constitution for partisan interests.”

She further stated that any fundamental change to the constitution would then require a referendum. Participants at the meeting expressed their support for voting “Yes.”

After the meeting, Adviser Farida Akhtar distributed leaflets among local leaders.

The event was chaired by Narayanganj District Administrator Mohammad Raihan Kabir. Among those present were Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mizanur Rahman Munshi, Additional District Administrator Alamgir Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer S.M. Fayez Uddin, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sadia Akhtar, Assistant Commissioner (Land), Fatullah Mohammad Asaduzzaman Noor, Upazila Engineer Yasir Arafat Rubel, along with administrative officials, social leaders, and local representatives.
