Tarique to start electioneering from Sylhet

BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman to arrived in Sylhet on Wednesday night to officially launch the party’s campaign for the 13th national election, and will visit the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal and Hazrat Shahparan upon his arrival.

This is his first visit outside Dhaka after taking charge as BNP Chairman. Party leaders and activists are excited about this visit. In addition, security preparations have been made Law enforcement agencies too. Six-level security measures have been taken by the law enforcement agencies surrounding the visit.

To make the party chairman’s election rally a success, a public meeting has been prepared at the Madrasa ground in accordance with the election code of conduct. As there is heat in the political arena surrounding Tarique Rahman’s arrival in Sylhet, there is also great curiosity and expectation among the common people.

It is a tradition to start an important political journey in the country from the spiritual city of Sylhet.
Visiting shrines is an inevitable part of that tradition. In line with that tradition, the current chairman of BNP, Tarique Rahman, is starting his campaign from Sylhet. Tarique Rahman is also following the path shown by his mother from Sylhet, where Khaleda Zia started her election campaign in 1991.

Tarique Rahman is scheduled to arrive in Sylhet by plane on the night of January 21. That night, after visiting the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal and Hazrat Shahparan, he will join an election rally at Alia Madrasa ground in Chowhatta area of Sylhet at 10 am.

BNP candidates from Sylhet and Sunamganj districts, as well as leaders and activists from various levels, will participate in this election rally at Alia Madrasa ground. After the rally, Tarique Rahman will leave for Dhaka by road. On the way, he will deliver a speech as the chief guest at two more public meetings in Sherpur in Moulvibazar and Shayestaganj in Habiganj. He will formally introduce the parliamentary candidates of the respective districts in these meetings.

To inform about the overall preparations for various programs undertaken on the occasion of Tarique Rahman’s upcoming visit to Sylhet and the extensive publicity activities of those programs.

Sylhet district and metropolitan BNP exchanged views with journalists in Sylhet. At a view-sharing meeting organized at a prestigious hotel in the city on Tuesday afternoon, BNP leaders said that it has been decided to further strengthen neighborhood-based campaigns to involve the general public in public meetings along with party leaders and activists.

There are plans to demonstrate their organizational strength by organizing large gatherings in the areas surrounding the rally venue and important places in Sylhet city. In addition, preparations are being made to welcome Tarique Rahman with the presence of a large number of people on both sides of the roads and highways he will pass through. BNP wants to hold its first election showdown in Sylhet centered on this visit.
