Tarique Rahman to lead Sylhet election rally

The first election rally of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will be held in Sylhet on January 22. BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman will be present as the chief guest. Extensive preparations have been made by Sylhet district and metropolitan BNP around his arrival.

As part of this, BNP’s central, district and metropolitan leaders visited the Alia Madrasa ground in Sylhet city on Friday (January 16) afternoon. During this time, they discussed the stage of the rally, security arrangements, capacity of the crowd, vehicle control and overall preparations. Along with this, necessary directions were given to the concerned officials. The leaders said that organizational activities have already been strengthened to bring lakhs of people to the rally. Preparation meetings, field-level activities and coordination activities between various units are continuing.

At this time, BNP candidate for Sylhet-4 constituency Ariful Haque Chowdhury said,
“The public meeting on January 22 will be an important chapter in the movement to restore democracy. Under the leadership of patriot Tarique Rahman, BNP is taking forward the struggle to restore the people’s voting rights and democracy. We are hopeful that the people of Sylhet will participate spontaneously in this public meeting.”

Sylhet District BNP President Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury said, “Sylhet District BNP has made full preparations on the occasion of Chairman Tarique Rahman’s arrival. Maximum importance is being given to completing the public meeting peacefully and in an orderly manner. InshaAllah, lakhs of people will be present at the Alia Madrasa ground.”

Metropolitan BP Acting President Rezaul Hasan Kayes Lodi said, “This public meeting is not just an election event, it is a powerful manifestation of the anti-fascist movement of the past days. Every unit of Metropolitan BNP has been brought to the field with all its might.”

Also present during the field visit were Central BNP Deputy Secretary for Micro and Credit Affairs Muktijoddha Abdur Razzak, Central Member Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, Former General Secretary of Metropolitan BNP Abdul Qayyum Jalali Pankhi, Badruzzaman Selim, Metropolitan BNP General Secretary Imdad Hossain Chowdhury, District BNP Vice President Shahjamal Nurul Huda, Metropolitan BNP Vice President Sadiqur Rahman, Joint Secretaries Najibur Rahman Najib, Kohinoor Ahmed and Mahbubul Haque Chowdhury, and other leaders.

The leaders said that the formal campaign for the national elections will begin on January 22. The previous night, Tarique Rahman will arrive in Sylhet by air. On the first day of the campaign, he will visit the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shahparan (RA). After that, he will address a public meeting held at Alia Madrasa ground at 11 am as the chief guest.

After the public meeting, Tarique Rahman will leave for Dhaka by road. On the way, he will address separate public meetings in Sherpur, Moulvibazar and Shayestaganj, Habiganj as the chief guest and will formally introduce the BNP-nominated parliamentary candidates of the respective districts to the people.
