60 candidates regain nomination on sixth day

In the lead-up to the 13th National Parliamentary Election, the Election Commission (EC) on Thursday restored the nominations of 60 candidates during the sixth day of appeals against returning officers’ decisions on submitted nomination papers.

The hearings took place at the EC auditorium in Agargaon, Dhaka.
According to EC sources, appeals numbered 351 to 420 were addressed on the sixth day. Of these, 60 were approved, 34 were rejected, and 10 remain pending due to legal complexities or the need for verification of supporting documents.

Since the hearings began on January 10, a total of 337 candidates have had their nominations reinstated, while 115 appeals have been rejected and 33 are still pending.

On previous days, 52 candidates regained nominations on the first day and 50 on the second, with significant numbers validated over the following days.

The EC announced that appeals numbered 421 to 490 will be heard on Friday (January 16), followed by 491 to 560 on Saturday (January 17), and the remaining cases on Sunday (January 18). A total of 645 appeals had been submitted to the commission.

Under the announced election schedule, the last day to withdraw nominations is January 20, with symbols allotted to candidates on January 21.

Election campaigns will begin on January 22 and continue for 19 days, concluding at 7:30 am on February 10. Voting for the 13th parliamentary elections will be held nationwide on February 12 from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.
