Army Chief’s intrusion sought over BNP leader killing

Staff Reporter :

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday called for the Army Chief’s intervention following the alleged killing of Shamsuzzaman Dablu, general secretary of the Jibannagar Municipal unit of BNP in Chuadanga, while in the custody of security forces.

In a statement, Fakhrul said incidents involving deaths caused by security personnel are harmful to the country and undermine the rule of law.

“Members of the security forces detained Shamsuzzaman Dablu on Monday night under the pretext of recovering arms and subjected him to inhuman torture, which ultimately caused his death. I express my deep shock and sorrow over this cruel and barbaric act,” he said.

The BNP Secretary General described Dablu’s death as an extrajudicial killing and termed it a grave violation of the country’s existing laws.

He said the public expects that under the current interim government, anyone accused of committing crimes will be brought to justice through the judicial system.

Fakhrul stated that detaining a BNP leader in the name of arms recovery and killing him through brutal torture is completely unacceptable to the people.

“I am seeking the immediate intervention of the Army Chief to prevent such horrific and tragic incidents,” he added.

Strongly condemning the incident, Fakhrul demanded a prompt, impartial, and transparent investigation to ensure those responsible are held accountable.

He also prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased and expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

The death of the local BNP leader while in army custody has sent shockwaves through Jibannagar in Chuadanga, raising serious questions about the circumstances of his death and sparking protests across the town.

Troops withdrawn after death in custody
