Jamaat asks neutral law and order ahead of polls

Staff Reporter :

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has called for stringent maintenance of law and order and complete neutrality ahead of the 13th national parliamentary election scheduled for 12 February.

The demand was made at a meeting of the party’s Central Executive Committee held on Monday at its central office in Moghbazar, presided over by Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman.

“We strongly urge the government and the Election Commission to take firm steps to ensure a free, fair and impartial election, guaranteeing full administrative neutrality and a stable law and order situation,” the party said.

During the meeting, Jamaat leaders reviewed the overall political atmosphere surrounding the upcoming referendum and the 13th national parliamentary election. They expressed concern that a free, fair and neutral electoral environment has yet to be established in the country. The party also alleged that certain officials within the administration are acting in favour of a particular political party.

Stating that the future of the country must not be compromised, Jamaat said the “new beloved Bangladesh” should not be allowed to fall victim to any conspiracy, plot or vested group.

The party urged the Election Commission, its officials and law enforcement agencies to uphold the highest level of neutrality and professionalism while carrying out their responsibilities, without showing bias towards any political party.

The meeting was attended by Jamaat’s nayeb-e-ameers, secretary general, assistant secretaries general and members of the Central Executive Council.
