Cinematographer, director Abdul Latif Bachchu no more

Renowned cinematographer and film director Abdul Latif Bachchu has passed away. He breathed his last at 12 noon on Sunday. He was 83.
Abdul Latif Bachchu was born on January 9, 1942 in Sirajganj. He started his journey in the film industry as an assistant to renowned cinematographer Sadhon Roy.
During that time, he worked in films like ‘Alor Pipasa’, ‘Agantuk’, ‘Darpachurna’ etc.
His first film made as a solo cinematographer was ‘Roopkumari’ in 1968. Abdul Latif Bachchu further strengthened his position by working with Chitra Zahir and Kazi Zahir in the film ‘Abujh Mon’.
Bachchu also gained fame as a director. His notable films include ‘Boloban’, ‘Jadur Banshi’, ‘Dweepkanya’, ‘Notun Bou’, ‘Mr Mawla’, ‘Protarok’ etc. The film ‘Jadur Banshi’ directed by him won the BACHSAS (Bangladesh Film Journalists’ Association) award.
Apart from that, he gained special fame with film ‘Notun Bou’.
In recognition of his work, he was awarded BACHSAS, Fazlul Haque Memorial Award and
various other awards.
His contribution to the world of film and theater will be especially memorable. Not only in production, but also in the policy-making of the film industry, he played
an important role. He served on the government censor board and jury board.
