Police Football Club win over Saddapuskuruni in WFL
Sports Reporter :
Police Football Club defeated Saddapuskuruni Sporting Club 2-0 in their match of the Women’s Football League (WFL) at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Shipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur on Sunday.
An important player in the Police team was Sanjida Akhtar. Police started their goal-scoring journey in the league with her goal in the 15th minute. Police returned to the dressing room with a one-goal lead in the first half. Irin Khatun scored another goal in the 30th minute of the second half to ensure Police’s victory. Sanjida won the Player of the Match award.
Sanjida is one of the rebels against the Head Coach of Bangladesh Women’s Football team Peter Butler. Like Sabina and Krishna, Coach Butler did not invite her to the national team’s camp. Although Sabina went to Thailand to play Futsal, Sanjida chose the domestic league. It remains to be seen whether Sanjida’s league performance will catch the attention of Coach Butler.
Most of the women’s league matches at Kamalapur Stadium are being played under floodlights. There is a lack of lighting compared to international matches. In response to the BFF’s appeal and request, the National Sports Council is trying to renovate the floodlights. The Bangladesh Women’s Football team has qualified for the AFC Women’s Asia Cup for the first time. The Bangladesh Football Federation is planning to send the players to Australia in mid-February.
