Boro cultivation begins in haors

Kishoreganj Correspondent :

More than half of Bangladesh ‘s paddy production comes from Boro. Transplanting of Boro seedlings has begun in the haor regoin, while seedbed preparation is underway across most part of the country.

Farmers in the haor areas likes Kishoreganj, Netrokona, Habiganj, Sunamganj and Brahmanbaria are currently busy tending to the seedbeds of Boro rice.

As the water level has receded at the right time this year, work is also underway to prepare land for planting rice seedlings.

However, farmers are worried about the increase in production costs due to the high price of fertilizer and diesel.

In Kishoreganj, Department of Agricultural has assured to be by their side with the right advice. Preparations for Boro paddy cultivation are currently underway in about 1,500 square kilometers of haor areas in Kishoreganj. Farmers are currently busy tending to the seedbeds of Boro rice.

They are regularly watering the seedbeds in the traditional way. Fertilizer is also being sprinkled along with it.

As a result, the seedbeds are already lush green. As the water level in the haor areas has receded at the right time this season, there is a lot of enthusiasm for preparing land for planting rice seedlings. Every year, preparations are made for Boro rice cultivation during this season.

This time too, farmers are busy preparing for Boro cultivation from morning to evening. Md Ramzan , a farmer from Nikli haor said, “This time the water in the haor has receded on time. I am preparing the land.

I have made a seedbed, the seedlings are growing properly. I will plant on time. Hopefully I will get a good harvest.”
