To Welcome New Year 2026: Tourists gather at Kuakata

Standing at the same spot on Kuakata sea beach in Patuakhali, can enjoy the breathtaking view of sunrise and sunset.
Therefore, the crowd of tourists is increased in Kuakata to bid farewell to the last sunset of the year and welcome the first sun of the new year.
However, tourism-related businessmen said that the number of tourists at the beach this year is much less than last year. These tourists have been arriving at the beach since Wednesday morning.
Although the number is small, the tourists who have arrived are enjoying themselves on the beach.
Hotel Khan Palace owner Abdur Rahim Khan said that due to the national mourning day for death of former Prime Minister and national leader Begum Khaleda Zia, fewer tourists are coming today, but many tourists will come from tomorrow.
Thousands of tourists were seen arriving at the sea beach on Wednesday afternoon. Many are ignoring the severe cold ,soaking in the salt water.
However, although there is not 100pc , but 50 percent of hotel , motel rooms are booked. Businessmen said that the number of tourists may increase further from Thursday on January 1,2026.
Tourist police, naval police and police station members are working for the safety of the arriving tourists.
Manowar Hossain, a beach umbrella and bench trader, said, “Tourists have started coming today, Wednesday. More tourists will come tomorrow Thursday on January 1, starting of new year and next twoday Friday and Saturday are weekly holiday.”
Kuakata Hotel Motel Owners Association President Abdul Motaleb Sharif said, “I thought there would be many tourists this weekend. Now I see it is very cold.
Due to the cold, fewer tourists are coming. However, almost 50 percent of the hotel rooms are booked. Tourists will come tomorrow too.”
Kuakata Municipal Administrator and Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) YasinSadek said, “Tourists have arrived in Kuakata, but they are coming less due to the severe winter cold and national mourning day. We, the municipal administration, tourist police and upazila administration, are engaged in serving tourists.”
