Public urged not to misuse social media content to spread violence
Staff Reporter :
The National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA) on Saturday called on citizens to report social media content that promotes terrorism or incites violence through WhatsApp or email.
Such content can be reported via WhatsApp at 01308332592 or by emailing [email protected], the agency said.
According to a PID handout, complaints received through these channels will be initially reviewed by the NCSA and then forwarded to the relevant social media platforms through the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).
The agency also urged people not to misuse social media to spread violence and to remain vigilant in safeguarding the country, as well as the lives and property of its citizens.
Citing the National Cyber Security Ordinance 2025, the NCSA said hate speech that directly incites or leads to violence is a punishable offence.
It added that while the government cannot directly remove social media posts, it can request platforms to take action against violent content by submitting well-founded and justified reports.
