Soumya in Tests after 5yrs

Explains Chief Selector

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has made important changes to the team for the upcoming two-match Test series against Australia.

After dropping opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy due to continuous failure, Soumya Sarkar has been brought back to the Test team after five years.

Chief Selector Habibul Bashar Sumon spoke at a press conference at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Monday that the decision was taken considering the batting combination.

He said as Tanzid Hasan and Shadman Islam are both left-handed openers, an experienced batter is needed in the top order.

Although Soumya is also left-handed, the selectors have given importance to his experience and experience playing in Australian conditions.

Habibul Bashar said Mahmudul Hasan Joy is still part of the long-term plan.

However, since his recent performance has been disappointing, there is a plan to play him in the series against South Africa ‘A’ team to regain confidence.

Soumya Sarkar has performed brilliantly for Khulna Division team in the National Cricket League.

He scored 633 runs in 14 innings at an average of 45.21, including a century and four fifties.

Although he could not touch double figures in five of the seven innings in the recent limited-overs series against Australia and Zimbabwe, the team management still has confidence in his experience in Tests.

On the other hand, Jaker Ali Anik has returned to the Test team after a year, replacing the injured Litton Das.

He caught the attention of the selectors by scoring fifties in all three innings for Bangladesh Emerging Team against Zimbabwe ‘A’ team.

He returned to the Bangladesh Cricket team after playing well in domestic cricket and the high-performance team.

Wicketkeeper Mahidul Islam Ankon has been dropped from the squad due to Jaker’s return.

According to the selectors, although Ankon was a backup, Jaker was always ahead of their plans.

The chief selector said there will be opportunities for Ankon in the upcoming ‘A’ series.
