Children’s joy at Bijoy Book Fair

Staff Reporter :

The ‘Bijoy Book Fair 2025’ began on the Bangla Academy premises on Wednesday, with the official opening ceremony scheduled for 4 pm, organised by the Bangladesh Publishers and Booksellers Association (BAPUS).

The fair will run until Monday, 22 December. According to BAPUS, the fair remains open daily from 2 pm to 8 pm, and on holidays from 11 am to 9 pm.

Parents are bringing their kids to the Bijoy Book Fair to spark a love for reading. On Sunday, at the Bangla Academy grounds event organized by the Bangladesh Publishers and Booksellers Association (Bapus), the scene brimmed with youthful excitement. Stalls stocked with colourful storybooks and rhymes drew crowds of thrilled children. Kids eagerly browsed for favorites; fairy tales, rhymes, comics, and child-friendly stories, before buying with delight, filling the fair with energy.

Parents say early exposure builds lifelong reading habits, which is why they’ve come. At Kakatuwa Prakashani’s stall, books on compositions, stories, travel tales, and fairy tales lined the shelves.
Salesman Mo. Mojammel noted kids flipping through indexes and chapters, setting aside anything unappealing.

Takdhum Prakashani rep Mohammad Jisad added that children crave science-based books on new discoveries, which sell fastest, alongside various story collections.
Third-grader Tajrin Yasmin from Nilkkhet Government Primary School, out with her father, loves book fairs.

She bought two new storybooks today and plans to return for more after finishing them. Organisers said that this fair features 170 stalls, including 140 top publishers. Books sell at 25per cent commission.
