7 of family burnt in Agargaon gas fire

Seven members of the same family, including two children and a pregnant woman, have been injured after a gas leak triggered a fire that gutted their tin-roofed home in Dhaka’s Agargaon.
The fire broke out around 4:30am on Saturday at the home in a government quarters near Agargaon Paka Market Road, reports bdnews24.com.

All seven victims were taken to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), according to Inspector Md Faruk, chief of the DMCH Police Outpost.
Faruk said the family reported smelling gas in the house before the fire, adding: “They told us the fire was sparked by a gas line leak.

The victims have been identified as Abdul Jalil Mia, 50, his wife Arneja Begum, 40, their sons Asif, 19, and Sakib, 16, Asif’s wife Monira, 17, and Jalil’s granddaughters Eva and Isha, both aged six.
The family is originally from Sherpur’s Nalitabari Upazila and had been renting the home at the government quarters.

Doctors say Jalil and Arneja suffered burns on 12 percent and 10 percent of their bodies, respectively. The others suffered burns mainly to their hands and feet.
Monira, who is eight months pregnant, was transferred to the Gynaecology Department after initial treatment.
