Young Man Beaten to Death After Being Branded a Thief in N’ganj

Staff Correspondent :
A young man was beaten to death after being accused of theft in Narayanganj’s
Bandar upazila on Monday morning. The incident occurred in the Sonachora area
of Ward 26.
The victim, Parvez (35), was the son of Tara Mia from Siddhirganj’s SO area. He
had been living with his wife at his in-laws’ residence in Sonachora. Police later
recovered the body and sent it to the Narayanganj General Hospital morgue.
According to the victim’s wife, Khadija Begum, Parvez was called out of the house
at night by Mesher Ali, the brother of Bandar Upazila Awami League president
M.A. Rashid. She alleged that Parvez was taken to an under-construction building
owned by the family, where Mesher Ali, his son Mahin, his wife Hajara, and
several others tied him to a pillar and assaulted him after labeling him a thief.
Khadija claimed that despite their repeated pleas, they were unable to stop the
attack. Parvez eventually collapsed and died.
Bandar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Liaqat Ali confirmed the incident,
saying that local residents had beaten the man after accusing him of theft. Police
recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. “Legal action is being
taken,” the OC added.
