The country’s major agro-industrial conglomerates have committed to deepening their reliance on U.S. soybeans, with Meghna Group, City Group, and Delta Agro pledging to buy an additional $1 billion worth of soybeans next year, according to a statement released by the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka on Wednesday.

The announcement follows a year of record imports. In 2025, Bangladesh imported more than 700,000 metric tonnes of soybeans from the United States, making the country one of the fast-growing markets for American agricultural exports in South Asia.

The embassy said the commitment was highlighted during a recent ceremony where a large shipment of U.S. soybeans arrived at Meghna Group’s facilities.

Tracey Ann Jacobson, the U.S. Embassy’s charge the affairs, formally welcomed the consignment and underscored the growing trade partnership.

Jacobson said U.S. soybeans offer a combination of affordability and high nutritional value, making them increasingly vital for Bangladesh’s fish and poultry industries.

These sectors, which rely heavily on soybean meal for feed, have continued to expand alongside rising domestic demand for protein.

According to the embassy, long-term procurement agreements between American producers and Bangladeshi industrial groups will help further strengthen bilateral economic ties.

Such partnerships, it noted, also ensure a steady supply of raw materials necessary for local manufacturing.

Jacobson added that agricultural cooperation between the two countries goes beyond trade, contributing to Bangladesh’s food security and industrial development.

As industry demand rises and supply chains evolve, U.S. officials said they expect soybean imports to play an even more critical role in the years ahead.
