Journalist attacked at KMC Hospital

A media activist was attacked while gathering news at Khulna Medical College (KMC) Hospital.

The allegation was made against a person named Md. Selimuzzaman, who was in the outpatient department on Monday. The journalist was also threatened with death at that time.

The victim has filed a written complaint with the city’s Sonadanga Police Station in this incident.Officer-in-charge( OC) of Sonadanga Police Station Kabir Hossain ascertained the matter.

The name of the journalist who was attacked is Nur Mohammad Khan Litu. He is a multimedia reporter for Khulna’s local newspaper Daily Prabha.

According to the complaint source, Litu went to gather news about the suffering of patients due to broker violence in the outpatient and inpatient departments of KMC Hospital.

At that time, Md. Selimuzzaman, who was in the outpatient department, abused him in foul language and threatened to kill him.

At one stage of the incident, the journalist was attacked and the Ansar member on duty there took him to a safe place.

It is learnt that the accused Md. Selimuzzaman is working as a lab technologist in the Patuakhali 250-bed General Hospital of the Health Department’s project.

He was transferred from Khulna Medical College Hospital on charges of corruption. Instead of working there, he ignored government instructions and opened an illegal diagnostic within the KMC Hospital compound and took patients away.

The journalist was attacked when he asked questions about these matters.The accused Selimuzzaman said, I am on vacation, which is why I am in Khulna.

I do not run any organization. This is an organization of my relative. There was no incident of attack or threat to the journalist.
