Illegal Establishments Eviction Drive at Sylhet Railway Station
Sylhet Bureau :
The district administration has started a drive to evict illegal establishments built in the Sylhet Railway Station area on Thursday (October 16) afternoon.
Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet had announced that there would be no illegal establishments in Sylhet. Especially the illegal establishments built around the railway station would be demolished soon. This drive was carried out on Thursday a few days after this announcement.
The administration launched the eviction drive at around 1 pm on Thursday as per the previous announcement of Sylhet Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarwar Alam. This drive is being led by the Executive Magistrate of the District Administration Ashiq Mahmud Kabir.
At the beginning of the drive, he gave 20 minutes to those who had set up illegal establishments to move. In this, the owners of various shops and these illegal establishments removed their goods within 20 minutes. Later, the establishments were demolished with bulldozers.
It is worth noting that while inspecting the scene of the train accident near Moglabazar railway station on Tuesday (October 7) morning,
the DC said, “There is no opportunity to sublet government houses or establishments (renting them to third parties). Action will be taken against those who are doing so. There will be no illegal establishments in Sylhet city. All illegal establishments, including railways, will be demolished in phases.”
