The signing ceremony of the July National Charter, initially scheduled for October 15, has been rescheduled to Friday, October 17, to ensure greater public participation.
The announcement came on Saturday following a meeting of the National Consensus Commission held at the state guesthouse Jamuna, chaired by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. Commission Vice Chairman Professor Dr. Ali Riaz briefed reporters after the meeting, saying, “The July National Charter signing is a historic milestone. To enable more people to witness and participate, the ceremony will now take place on Friday, October 17, at the South Plaza of the National Parliament.”
Earlier, the commission had announced that the event would be held on Wednesday, October 15. However, the plan was revised considering that a weekday might limit public attendance.
Representatives from various political parties and alliances are expected to attend the event, along with delegates from different professional and civic groups across the country. The commission said invitations will be sent to ensure inclusive representation.
Saturday’s meeting was also attended by Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar, member of the National Consensus Commission, Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haider.
The July National Charter initiative is seen as a major step toward building a national consensus in Bangladesh during a crucial political transition.
