Fascist allies target communal harmony: Home Adviser
Staff Reporter:
Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that fascist allies were behind the conspiracies to disrupt communal harmony by spreading allegations of rape to destabilize the Chittagong Hill Tracts and by adding a beard to the demon’s face in Durga Puja pandals.
He made the remarks while briefing journalists on Sunday afternoon after a meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order held at the conference room of the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Secretariat.
The Home Affairs Adviser said, “The fascists and their associates tried to incite religious division, communal tension, and violence by adding a beard to the face of the demon in several Durga Puja pandals. Some fascist intellectuals also instigated these acts.”
He further said, “We have received reports that during the making of Durga idols in a neighboring country, our Chief Adviser was portrayed in a certain way. The act of adding a beard to the demon’s face appears to be connected to that incident.”
The Adviser added, “Thanks to the active role of law enforcement agencies, the strict surveillance of intelligence units, and the cooperation of Puja Committee members and others involved, the conspirators’ plot was foiled. Like last year, this year’s Durga Puja was held peacefully, safely, smoothly, and in a festive atmosphere across the country.”
Regarding legal action, he said, “A total of 793 Durga Puja pandals across the country saw beards added to demon faces in an attempt to destroy communal harmony. Those involved are being identified, and General Diaries (GDs) have been filed in the respective police stations.”
Speaking about the alleged rape incident in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, the Adviser said, “No evidence of rape was found in the medical report related to the incident that created such an uproar in the Hill Tracts. With the cooperation of the army, other law enforcement agencies, and local residents, the situation has been handled smoothly and effectively. The blockade and Section 144 have already been withdrawn in the area.”
During the briefing, the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant on Home Affairs, Md Khoda Bakhsh Chowdhury, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Nasimul Ghani, and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam were present.
