Jamaat’s protest rally in Sylhet July Charter Must be given a legal basis -Hamidur Rahman Azad

Sylhet Bureau :
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Assistant Secretary General Former MP Dr. AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad He said, ‘The current government must complete the activities of the July Declaration Charter to implement the aspirations of the people and give the July Charter a legal basis. If the July Charter is not a legal basis, then the next February election will be an election based on the fascist era. If the election is without reforms, it will be an election that goes against the July spirit.’
He said these things while speaking as the chief guest of the protest rally of Sylhet Metropolitan Jamaat on Friday (September 19) at 3:30 pm at the city registry ground on the legal basis of the July Charter, national elections under the PR system, including 5-point demands.
He said, ‘On the occasion of the anniversary of August 5 this year, the government issued the July Declaration. Instead of containing the July speed in that declaration, the government has implemented the agenda of a special caste and group. In that declaration, there is no mention of the massacre at Shapla Chattar, there is no mention of the killing of soldiers in Peelkhana, there is no mention of the disappearances and murders and judicial during Sheikh Hasina’s tenure. The current interim government has promised The July Charter would be based on consensus. There was consensus on 84 issues, but on some issues, two or three parties interfered. We did not see the role of this government as neutral.’
Referring to the Reform Commission, he said, ‘The promise that the government made to the countrymen was based on the July spirit and the aspiration that has been created is that we want to take Bangladesh forward. But unfortunately, it is true that what happened during the period of fascism is that under the rule of the current government, some parties have lost control over their own party members. They have engaged in various market occupations, extortion and terrorism. From that point, the current government is showing its failure. At the beginning of the reforms, the interim government first formed 11 commissions, and later 6 consensus commissions. After a long three months, meetings are still being held for reforms, but the reforms are being obstructed by the intervention of a particular party.’
Regarding the upcoming elections, he said, ‘Those who do not accept the July spirit and want to obstruct the reforms are the ones who really want to sabotage the elections. If two or three parties do not accept the PR system, do not accept the reform system and do not want a legal basis, then on what basis will they hold the February elections? That Sheikh Hasina-era election, the election of day and night voting, the uncontested election of 2014, the dummy election of 2024. This election will not be held again. The grave of that misrule has been laid through the July Revolution. Fascism has been overthrown from Bangladesh. The election of the fascist era will not be held again in that Bangladesh. If you want fair elections, then hold elections based on the reformed law. Cancel the old system of elections. Elections of the PR system will have to be held in Bangladesh too.
Hamidur Rahman Azad further said, ‘Through the government of Jamaat-e-Islam, we will show the state a new path. Bangladesh will move forward through a new political system. The murderers of those who gave their lives and were injured in this movement and struggle will be tried. The corrupt people who destroyed the country’s economy through corruption and looting will be tried. Through the interim government, we will give Bangladesh the best election in history. The people of the country will vote in a festive atmosphere. People will celebrate the national elections in February. On the occasion of the next election, the government has undertaken reform activities and announced the electoral timeline including the trial activities.’
At this time, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Central Working Committee member and Sylhet Metropolitan Ameer Muhammad Fakhrul Islam, Metropolitan Nayeb Ameer Dr. Nurul Islam Babul and Secretary Mohammad Shahjahan Ali along with central and local leaders were present here.
The 5-point demands announced by Jamaat are- Organizing elections in February based on the July National Charter. Introducing the PR system in both chambers in the next national election. Ensuring a level playing field for all with the aim of free, fair and acceptable elections. Making visible the trial of all the atrocities, genocide and corruption of the fascist government. Banning the activities of the Jatiya Party and the 14 parties, which are allies of dictatorship.
