ACC prosecutes retired justice Manik over alleged illegal assets

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has charged retired justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik with amassing Tk 53.97 million in illicit assets and misusing his authority to misappropriate plots in the Purbachal New Town project.

On Thursday, the national anti-graft agency’s Director General Md Akhter Hossain said Deputy Assistant Director Abdullah Al Mamun filed two cases at the Integrated District Office, Dhaka-1.

On Aug 23, 2024, following the change of power, Manik was arrested by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the Dana border in Sylhet’s Kanaighat Upazila, reports bdnews24.com.

The day after, Sylhet Judicial Magistrate Alamgir Hossain ordered his detention and sent him to jail.

Police later filed a case at Kanaighat Police Station, accusing him of “attempting to cross into India”.
