Navy rescues 12 fishermen in the Bay
Bagerhat Correspondent :
Bangladesh Navy’s warship ‘BanoujaBishkhali’ rescued a fishing trawler with 12 fishermen adrift after its engine failed while it was patrolling in the Bay of Bengal on Saturday.
The recovered trawler is named ‘FB Mayer Doa’. The navy ship identified the trawler floating in the area adjacent to the International Maritime Boundary (Western IMBL), about 17 nautical miles from the Mongla Fairway Buoy (under MonglaUpazila in Bagerhat district).
The trawler was detected as being in distress by the radar of a patrolling navy warship. The ship’s sailors, who quickly reached the spot, found that the trawler’s engine had broken down and it had been floating in the deep sea for about two days. During this time, the fishermen were in extreme distress. Their lives became difficult due to the acute shortage of food and clean water.
After rescuing the fishermen, the navy members immediately provided them with food, clean water and first aid treatment. Later, all the fishermen were found in good health.
It is learned that the trawler that was involved in the accident set out to sea for fishing on August 15, 2025. Due to a mechanical fault, its engine failed and the trawler was stranded in the deep sea. They were forced to remain afloat for about two days amid heavy waves and hostile weather.
After the rescue, the warship ‘BanoujaBishkhali’ towed the trawler to a safe place. It was handed over to the Bangladesh Coast Guard ship ‘BCGS Atrai’ for further operations.
