Administration’s drive in Sadar Upazila 1.5 lakh cubic feet of stone seized

A huge amount of white stone has been recovered from a pond in Lalbagh and Dhopagul in Sylhet suburbs.
The Upazila administration conducted a drive from noon on Thursday (August 28).
During this time, a drive was conducted against illegal storage of white stone in Dhopagul and Lalbagh areas of Sylhet Sadar Upazila.
The drive was led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate of Sylhet Sadar Upazila Sarkar Mamunur Rashid and Executive Magistrate Mehedi Hasan Hridoy.
 Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Khoshnur Rubaiyat confirmed this information and said that based on information received locally during the drive, about 1.5 lakh cubic feet of white stone secretly stored in 5 ponds in Dhopagul and Lalbagh areas were seized. These stones have been kept in the custody of a local ward member.
No landowner or anyone related was found during the drive. The process of taking legal action against the crusher mill owner involved in illegal stone stockpiling is underway.
The administration’s drive against such illegal activities will continue. He called on everyone to cooperate in the interest of nature and environment conservation.
