Senxin BD signs deal with BEPZA for LED, packaging plant

Chinese company Senxin BD Co. Ltd. is set to invest US$10.81 million in Mongla Export Processing Zone (EPZ) to establish a manufacturing industry for LED bulbs and packaging materials. The project, formalised through an agreement signed with the Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) in the capital on Thursday, is expected to diversify the zone’s industrial base and generate more than 700 jobs for local workers.

The agreement was signed by Md. Ashraful Kabir, Member (Investment Promotion) of BEPZA, and Wu Changqin, Chairman of Senxin BD, on behalf of their respective organisations. Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, BSP, ndc, psc, Executive Chairman of BEPZA, witnessed the ceremony.

According to BEPZA, Senxin BD will manufacture a wide range of LED lighting products including bulbs, street lights, spot lights, panel lights, big sky three-sided LED solar street lights, ABS LED solar street lights, explosion-proof LED lamps, flood lights, and strip lights. In addition, the company will produce packaging materials such as cartons and poly bags, supporting both its own production and potential supply to other industries, says a press release.

The new venture is expected to create 717 employment opportunities for Bangladeshi nationals, contributing to local job creation and technology transfer in the EPZ.

Welcoming the investment, BEPZA’s Executive Chairman said, “While the readymade garment sector continues to play a vital role in our economy, BEPZA is working to attract and facilitate diversified industries. Senxin BD’s investment reflects growing investor confidence in our EPZs, and we will extend all necessary support for their successful operations.”

The signing ceremony was also attended by senior BEPZA officials, including Member (Finance) A N M Foyzul Haque, Executive Director (Investment Promotion) Md. Tanvir Hossain, and Executive Director (Enterprise Services) Md. Khorshid Alam.
