Staff Reporter :

Four persons have been arrested by police on charge of mob beating that killed two men in Taraganj, Rangpur. The arrests followed a case filed on Sunday afternoon by Bharati Rani, wife of victim Ruplal Das, at Taraganj Police Station accusing 700 unidentified suspects.

The detainees have been identified as Ebadat Hossain (27) of Balapur, Aktarul Islam (45) of Burirhat, Rafiqul Islam (33), and Mizanur Rahman (22) of Rahimapur in Sayar Union.
Taraganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge M.A. Farooq said the arrests were made based on video footage analysis, digital forensics, and information from local residents.

He added that efforts are underway to detain others involved, warning that no one connected to the incident will evade justice.

According to the case statement, on Saturday night around 8:30 pm, Ruplal Das (40) and his nephew-in-law Pradip Lal (35) were returning home by van from Choron Baluya in Mithapukur.
At Burirhat Bottola in Sayar Union, several locals stopped and questioned them. They searched Pradip’s black bag, finding a beverage bottle and some medicine.

When the bottle was opened, a foul smell reportedly caused some bystanders to feel ill. This triggered a violent reaction, and the pair were taken to the Burirhat High School grounds, where they were severely beaten by a mob.

They were later taken to Taraganj Health Complex, where Ruplal was pronounced dead. Pradip died early the next morning while undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
According to sources, Ruplal Das and Pradip Lal with their hands folded pleaded for their lives. But the hearts of those present did not soften.

Suspected of theft, the two were beaten to death. A video showing them begging with folded hands has been circulating across social media.

The video shows several locals detaining Ruplal and Pradip along with a cycle van. A plastic sack was taken off the cycle van, and they were asked to say their names and identities
