NN Online:
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus formally inaugurated the *Navy and Air Force Selection Board-2025* on Sunday at the Navy Headquarters in Dhaka, marking the commencement of the annual officer promotion process.
The board will oversee promotions for Navy officers from Captain to Commodore, Commander to Captain, and Lieutenant Commander to Commander; and for Air Force officers from Group Captain to Air Commodore, Wing Commander to Group Captain, and Squadron Leader to Wing Commander. Comprising top military policymakers, the board’s decisions will be subject to government approval.
The event began with a minute of silence in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the recent Milestone School and College plane crash, according to a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
In his address, Prof Yunus paid tribute to the armed forces personnel martyred in the 1971 Liberation War, freedom fighters of all walks of life, and those killed during the July–August 2024 mass uprising. He praised the Bangladesh Navy and Air Force for their heroic history and vital roles in disaster response, national development, and maintaining law and order—particularly during last year’s student-led movement.
The Chief Adviser also emphasized the importance of building a blue economy and acknowledged the Navy’s role in managing the future deep sea port and marine resources. He noted the ongoing activities to boost this sector, including the establishment of the Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority (MIDA).
Prof Yunus underscored the need for continued modernization of the armed forces and highlighted their contribution to education, development, and national security. He urged the selection board to promote officers who embody patriotism, integrity, professionalism, and leadership.
Upon arrival, Prof Yunus was welcomed by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Nazmul Hassan and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan. Both chiefs expressed gratitude for the Chief Adviser’s support and stated that his involvement had boosted morale and inspired renewed commitment across the forces.
Senior military and civil officials attended the ceremony, which concluded with the Chief Adviser planting a sapling on the Navy Headquarters premises and wishing continued prosperity for the Navy, Air Force, and the nation.
