Ctg port to auction 475 abandoned containers
Business Report :
Chattogram Customs House has initiated the auctioning of 475 containers that have remained at Chattogram Port for an extended period.
The move aims to ease cargo congestion at the port, following directives from the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
Additional Commissioner Md. Tafsir Uddin Bhuiyan confirmed the development on Monday.
According to sources from customs and port authorities, there are currently around 40,000 containers at the port, with at least 10,000 left unattended for a prolonged time.
These long-neglected containers have significantly contributed to the ongoing space crisis at the port. Goods imported between 2013 and 2023 that were not cleared within the prescribed time have been classified as ‘abandoned’.
The auctioning process is being carried out under a special NBR directive titled ‘Fast Auction, Bilibindej and Destruction Activities’.
