Mahbub elected Nilphamari Chamber president

Mahbub Ur Rahman Mahbub has been elected president in the biennial election of the Nilphamari Chamber of Commerce and Industries.

Voting was held at the Rabeya Girls’ High School Niketan polling centre in the town on Saturday. The results were announced in the evening after voting ended.

Mahbub Ur Rahman Mahbub won the presidency with 280 votes, defeating his nearest rival Sohel Parvez, who secured 276 votes. A total of three candidates contested for the post.

The newly elected president, Mahbub Ur Rahman Mahbub, is a former general secretary of the municipal unit of the BNP and president of the Shop Owners’ Association.

His rival, Sohel Parvez, is a senior joint convener of the district BNP and a former president of the Nilphamari Chamber of Commerce and Industries.

Raj Kumar Poddar Raju was elected senior vice-president with 361 votes, while his nearest rival Abu Saleh Sohel Rana received 214 votes. Akhtar Hossain Swapan was elected vice-president with 387 votes, defeating Farhanul Haque, who received 131 votes.

In the General Group, 12 candidates were elected as members: Golam Mostafa Ranj?, Muktar Hossain, Sushanta Kumar, Hasanuzzaman, Tarikul Alam, Tapas Kumar Saha, Moniruzzaman Chowdhury, Rezwan Ahmed, Sakil Ahmed, Akibur Rahman, Mashgul Islam and Mahbubur Rahman Moni. A total of 18 candidates contested for the 12 posts.

In the Associate Member Group, Abul Kalam Mithu, Mohammad Momtaz, Mobasher Alam Prince, Matiar Rahman and Azizul Islam were elected. Eight candidates contested for the five posts.

Of the total 684 voters, 590 cast their ballots, while 10 votes were declared invalid.

Abu Mohammad Soyem, General Prosecutor (GP) of the Nilphamari Judge Court and chief of the election board, confirmed the election results and voting-related information.
