Jute, shrimp drive Tk 5,971.40cr export earnings from Khulna

A total of Taka 5,971.40 crore has been earned in 2024-’25 fiscal by exporting jute, jute goods, shrimp, vegetables and fruits from Khulna region.
The export of jute, jute goods and shrimp has raised from Khulna during the interim government’s period due to the good image of new Bangladesh abroad, sources from Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Khulna told the media on Thursday, reports BSS.
Improvement of global economy also played a vital role in increasing the flow of export orders, they said adding that Khulna exporters earned Tk 5,376.17 crore from July 2023 to June 2024 while Taka 5,971 crore during the corresponding period of 2024-’25 fiscal.
The EPB data showed that a total of 13,019.80 tones of frozen shrimp were exported during the 2024-’25 fiscal, earning Tk 1,990.39 crore.
Apart from this, the export of white fish like “Kuchia” (ell fish), crab, vegetables, raw jute and jute goods have also increased.
According to EPB sources, in the 2024-25 fiscal, the businessmen in the region exported goods of Tk 517.68 crore in July, Tk 447.53 crore in August, Tk 601.98 crore in September, Tk 566.96 crore in October, Tk 523.13 crore in November, Tk 457.37 crore in December, Tk 423.65 crore in January, Tk 402.52 crore in February, Tk 438.91 crore in March, Tk 550.87 crore in April, Tk 611.69 crore in May and Tk 429.11 crore in June, 2025.
Zeenat Ara, Director of Khulna EPB, told that improvement of global economy, the nearly stable state of the foreign currency and returning of glorious image of Bangladesh abroad were behind increasing the exports.
“Exports dropped from Khulna last year due to manifold reasons including closing government jute mills, shrimp factories during the fallen regime,” she said.
She referred to the recent visits of Textiles and Jute Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin and hoped that Khulna region will regain its previous glory in export of jute, shrimp and other goods.
