Drug dealer held in Bauphal

Police arrested a drug dealer and seized yaba tablets, cannabis, cash and a knife during an anti-drug operation in Boga Union of Bauphal upazila in Patuakhali on Sunday.

The arrested man was Kamrul Islam alias Khokon Dofadar, 46, son of the late Abul Kashem Dofadar of Boga village in Ward No. 3 of the union.

According to police, a team led by Zainal Abedin, in-charge of Boga Police Outpost, launched the operation based on a tip-off. Members of the team went undercover, posing as drug buyers, and arrested Khokon during the operation.Police later searched him and recovered the drugs and other items.

Police said they recovered 45 yaba tablets, 250 grams of cannabis, Tk 4,460 in cash allegedly earned from drug sales, a small knife and a mobile phone from his possession.

The operation was conducted at around 11pm in Ward No. 3 of Boga Bazar.
Local residents alleged that Khokon had been involved in selling drugs in different areas of Boga Union for a long time.

Zainal Abedin said anti-drug drives would continue and legal action would be taken against people involved in drug dealing and consumption.

Bauphal Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sirajul Islam said a case had been filed against Khokon under the Narcotics Control Act. He was later sent to court, the OC added.
