Staff Reporter :
Asad Alam Siam, a 15th batch officer of the BCS (Foreign Affairs Cadre), has been appointed as the new Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh.
He will serve as the country’s 28th Foreign Secretary.
The decision was announced in a notification issued on Thursday by the Administration Wing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under the directive of the President.
According to the notification, Asad Alam Siam will serve as Foreign Secretary until further orders. The appointment will come into effect from Friday.
Earlier reports indicated that Ruhul is returning home while Siam is taking on new responsibilities.
The interim government removed Md. Jashim Uddin, the 27th Foreign Secretary, just eight months after his appointment. He went on leave on May 22.
Following that, Asad Alam Siam-then serving as Bangladesh’s Ambassador to the United States-was selected as his successor.
Before his assignment in the US, Asad Alam Siam served as Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office in Vienna, Austria, and as Ambassador to the Philippines.
