Govt to form high-level panel to review public service ordinance
NN Online:
In response to growing discontent among government employees, the government is set to form a high-level committee to review the recently enacted Government Service (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025.
Law Adviser Asif Nazrul disclosed the development on Tuesday while addressing reporters after receiving a memorandum from the Secretariat Officers and Employees Unity Forum.
“There are concerns among government employees regarding the ordinance. The government is open to hearing those objections,” said Asif Nazrul. “As far as I know, a high-level advisory committee will be formed to review the concerns in detail and make appropriate recommendations.”
He confirmed that the committee is expected to be formed within a day or two, indicating the government’s willingness to reconsider the ordinance based on the feedback received.
“The decision to form this committee shows the government’s readiness to take a humanitarian approach,” Nazrul added. “If I am included, I will sincerely listen to their concerns and raise them in the advisory council meeting.”
Responding to a question about the forum’s threat to launch tough protest programmes after Eid-ul-Azha if the ordinance is not withdrawn, the adviser said, “That is their decision.”
Meanwhile, Md Badiul Kabir, co-chairman of the Secretariat Officers-Employees Unity Forum, said, “We will sit again on June 16 after the Eid holidays. We expect a prompt and full resolution. This repressive and unjust law must be repealed.”
