Cattle markets must follow govt hasil rate: DMP Chief

NN Online:

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali has directed lessees of cattle markets not to collect more than the government-fixed five percent ‘hasil’ (market fee) during the sale of sacrificial animals ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

“No market will be allowed to charge extra beyond the government-set rate,” the commissioner said during a special coordination meeting held at the DMP Headquarters on Saturday.

The meeting focused on overall security measures, management of cattle markets, protection of vehicles transporting cattle and rawhide, and ensuring smooth traffic flow in the DMP area.

Commissioner Sazzat Ali emphasized that vehicles transporting sacrificial animals from different regions of the country must not be coerced into entering specific cattle markets. He also instructed that loading and unloading of animals must be carried out in an organized manner.

“Legal action will be taken against those disrupting traffic or forcing traders to sell animals,” he warned.

Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Sarwar and Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) S. N. Md. Nazrul Islam also addressed the meeting.

The coordination meeting brought together representatives from various intelligence agencies, police specialized units, Bangladesh Bank, Dhaka University’s Institute of Leather Engineering and Technology, Department of Livestock Services, Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection, both Dhaka North and South City Corporations, Fire Service and Civil Defense, DPDC, DESCO, Dhaka District Administration, public and private service providers, Salt Traders Association, and Bangladesh Tanners Association.

At the outset, DMP Joint Police Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah presented a comprehensive security and traffic management plan for cattle markets through a PowerPoint presentation.
