MoST to ink power purchase deal with NPCBL

The Ministry of Science and Technology has decided to sign a PPA with the Bangladesh Power Development Board Nuclear Power Plant Company Bangladesh Limited (NPCBL) to purchase electricity generated from the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. The ministry recently informed the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission about this decision in a letter.
Meanwhile, officials working on the project said that the courageous and persistent efforts of NPCBL Managing Director and Rooppur NPP Project Director Dr. Md. Jahedul Hasan were instrumental in the ministry’s decision to sign the PPA.
A vote of thanks was held on this occasion at the Rooppur site office on Friday The chief guest at the meeting was Dr. Md. Jahedul Hasan, Managing Director of NPCBL and PD of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
Chief Engineer Md. Hasmat Ali, PPS Chief SM Mahmud Arafat, all managers and deputy managers working on the project and other officials were present. At this time, a cake was cut and Dr. Zahedul Hasan was congratulated with flowers.
In the meeting, Chief Engineer Hasmat Ali, Managing Director of NPCBL and Project Director of Rooppur NPP, Dr. Jahedul Hasan expressed his gratitude and thanks for taking the project forward by increasing the speed of the project, ensuring 100% quality and taking effective decisions since taking charge. He praised his leadership for successfully completing the commissioning test with Russian partners by reorganizing the design team, quality team, commissioning team and other important teams and tracking and distributing the activities using project management software.
In the meeting, Dr. Jahedul Hasan said that recently there was some confusion regarding the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) of Rooppur Plant. Considering the matter, the Ministry of Science and Technology has taken the appropriate decision. The power purchase agreement will be made with NPCBL. He sincerely thanked the Ministry of Science and Technology for taking this logical decision.
He further said that NPCBL was established through the ‘Nuclear Act’ of 2015.
